Jim Carrey Appears On The Weeknd’s New Album & Fans Are Going Wild

The year 2022 is off to a fantastic and weird start. The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) has returned with the widely anticipated follow-up, Dawn FM, two years after helping many people cope with the pressure of the 2020 COVID-19 epidemic. A group of partners, including Jim Carrey, assisted him in ushering in this new era.

Yes, the man behind The Mask, Man on the Moon, and Bruce Almighty was a surprise guest on The Weeknd’s new album. In the role of a DJ, the actor plays a soft-rock radio host who guides listeners through the entire album. It’s incredible, and fans are adoring it.

One Twitter user described Jim Carrey as “so clutch,” while another remarked, “God bless Jim Carrey”. The former by the former In Living Color comic’s arrival wasn’t entirely unexpected.

“I listened to Dawn FM with my good friend Abel last night,” Jim wrote on Jan. 3, just after The Weeknd revealed the title of his new album and the list of contributors. The new endeavour, Jim added, was “deep and elegant and it danced me around the room. I’m thrilled to play a part in his symphony.”

When The Weeknd saw Jim’s comment, he was moved and returned the compassion with his own love. Abel wrote, “Thank you for being a part of this,” wrote Abel. “It’s kismet. Full circle”. In an August 2021 feature in GQ, The Weeknd discussed his friendship with Jim Carrey. Abel and Jim met for the first time as Abel was celebrating his 30th birthday.

“Jim Carrey was my first inspiration to be any kind of performer…”

“We’d been texting prior to that. And then, on my 30th birthday, he surprised me. He just pulled up to my crib and took me to breakfast,” the singer told GQ. He added that he lived two buildings down from him and they both had a telescope. The Weeknd further explained that he asked him where does he live and which floor does he live on.

“I was like, Blah, blah, blah. And we looked out the windows on our telescopes and we could see each other. That was like the beginning of my 30s. It was just like, What is going on?” Abel said. The singer also talked about his telescopic friendship in an April 2020 interview with Variety.

“I texted him the address of my condo in L.A., and he said, ‘I can literally see your place from my balcony,’ and we got out telescopes and were waving to each other,” he said. “Jim Carrey was my first inspiration to be any kind of performer, and I went to breakfast with him on my first day of being 30.”

While the other Dawn FM partners appear to be more traditional — Quincy Jones, Oneohtrix Point Never, Lil Wayne, and Tyler, The Creator all appear – Jim stands out at first glance. Those familiar with Jim’s career know, however, that he can carry a tune. In 1994’s The Mask, he performed “Cuban Pete,” and in 1996’s The Cable Guy, he covered Jefferson Airplane’s “Somebody To Love.” Jim’s musical abilities shone before that, during his stint on In Living Color (1990-1994).

Jim also recorded The Beatles’ “I Am The Walrus” on George Martin’s In My Life album, which was assembled and produced by the Beatles’ longtime producer. Goldie Hawn sang “A Hard Day’s Night,” Robin Williams sang “Come Together” with Bobby McFerrin, and Sean Connery sang “In My Life” in In My Life.
