Jason Momoa surprises wife Lisa Bonet by fully restoring her first car, a 1965 Mustang, as a gift

Jason Momoa had the ultimate romantic gesture for his wife! The Game of Thrones actor shared a video to his YouTube channel on Tuesday, taking viewers behind the scenes of his latest gift for his wife. Restoring a 1965 mustang, her ‘first love,’ that she bought and drove when she was 17-years-old!

The 41 year old actor went to great lengths to refurbish the ride, calling the gift ‘14 years in the making‘ while documenting his journey in a YouTube film. The artsy video, which was produced by Momoa’s company, On The Roam, followed the car’s makeover from start to finish.

“I know we can’t relive a memory, but maybe we can rebuild one,” Momoa says in the video while sharing shots of the white, beat-up Mustang before he delivered it to Divine 1 Customs in Las Vegas. “The story is this is the first car she ever bought. It’s one of three ever made and it has a lot of custom parts to it,” he told the crew at the shop.

The clip featured a lovely montage of Jason and a number of skilled mechanics working to make the old, rusted car look new again. By the time the car’s makeover was complete, Jason showed off the mens’ handy work to his and Lisa’s children. 13 year old daughter, Lola Iolani Momoa and 11 year old son, Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa.

‘This is a big dream come true”

‘This is a big dream come true because this was my wife’s first car,’ an emotional Momoa explains while holding polaroids of his wife in the car as a teen. “I never thought that it would look like this. To be in this passenger seat with my wife here and surprise her and our babies in the back. Riding in her first car when she was 17. I’m excited to see her face,” he said. “It’s come a long way, a long way.”

Lisa’s reaction

Momoa proceeded to excitedly carry his wife outside of their home where he waited for her reaction. “It’s beautiful. Holy cow,” Lisa exclaimed, clearly beside herself. “That is gorgeous. Oh my gosh. It’s pristine, not too flashy but just enough.”

After taking some time to take it all in, Lisa and Jason shared an intimate moment, kissing one another tenderly. The couple hopped in the car with their two kids and drove off into the sunset, as they held hands.

Momoa also shared a quick clip of the video on Instagram where he wrote. “Aloha everyone, this is 14 years in the making. I wanted to surprise my wife with her first car she ever bought and bring it back to life and into our family.”

Momoa and Bonet’s Relationship

Momoa and Lisa started dating in 2005. Two years later, they welcomed their daughter in 2007, followed by their son in December 2008. Through his secret marriage to Lisa in 2017, Jason is the stepfather of her daughter, Zoë Kravitz with musician, Lenny Kravitz.

Momoa’s gift for his wife wasn’t essentially a birthday present, since Bonet’s birthday is not taking place until November. However, it was recently Momoa’s birthday on August 1.

The Aquaman actor was wished a Happy Birthday by his stepdaughter and also Bonet’s ex-husband, Lenny Kravitz. Lenny shared a photo of himself and Momoa at his daughter’s 2019 wedding to Karl Glusman. He captioned it, ‘One family. One love.’
