Jacob Batalon, of Spider-Man, opens out about his weight loss journey

Jacob Batalon, who starred in Spider-Man: No Way Home, recently opened out about his weight reduction journey and how he shed over 100 pounds.

Batalon is an American actor who is best recognized for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ned Leeds. With Tom Holland and Zendaya, the actor has played Leeds in all three MCU Spider-Man films, as well as appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

He has also appeared in 50 States of Fright, Bubble Gang, and Let It, Snow, in addition to Spider-Man.

Holland, Zendaya, and Batalon form an enduring trio that serves as the face of the MCU’s Spider-Man film series. Leeds quickly gained popularity among viewers for his wit and bravery, but most importantly for being Peter Parker’s (Holland) most devoted friend and sidekick. When Batalon and Alfred Molina filmed together, No Way Home’s Alfred Molina asked for his autograph. Batalon’s talent and work ethic shine through in his performances, but acting isn’t the only adventure he’s taken recently.

Batalon revealed his weight-loss effort to Men’s Health (via People) in an interview. Batalon admitted that his weight gain had begun to affect his health to the point that he was out of breath climbing stairs and couldn’t believe he had allowed himself to get to that point.

He started going to the gym six days a week for 90 minutes with the help of a trainer in 2020, and he also started eating a plant-based diet with the support of his girlfriend. He has shed an amazing amount of weight and regained his health thanks to his combined diet and training routine.

Take a look at what he has to say:

I decided to get into this sort of transformation, or this sort of journey, with my health and fitness at the end of 2019. Even when I wasn’t doing anything physical, I found myself getting sleepy at work and it was because of all the fat food I was eating. This one day I kind of just saw myself without a shirt on and it was just ridiculous. I could not believe I let myself get this far. That’s what sort of started it all. Recently, my girlfriend has actually gotten me into a plant-based diet, as well, and that’s really helped my body and I can feel the difference between eating a lot of meat and eating plant-based stuff and that’s really helped me, as well. I found a lot of light in the dark in the sense that a lot of people were suffering and I was fortunate and lucky enough to have found my health and all those things.

While fans liked seeing Batalon on the big screen as Leeds and pondering his future in the MCU, it was impossible to completely understand the behind-the-scenes struggles. His weight had begun to affect him in severe ways behind the scenes, despite the fact that he was chirpy and full of fun on screen.
