Jack Harlow sang “Poison” from his most recent album, featuring Lil Wayne, at the 2022 BET Awards just one month after releasing Come Home The Kids Miss You, his first No. 1 album. Before the camera switched to Harlow’s position in the back and he started spitting his verse, DJ Drama briefly introduced himself as the stage changed into a house party atmosphere.
Lil Wayne started his sixteen bars of rhyming after Harlow finished his line, using a rhythm reminiscent of his flow from the Tha Carter III track “Mrs. Officer”.
The lighting changed to a white tone and Jack Harlow entered the stage following their rendition of “Poison.” Backup dancers in all-black outfits joined the Louisville rapper as he launched into his viral song, “First Class.” Everyone at the Microsoft Theater was shocked when Brandy, aka B Rocka, entered the stage and sang a verse from her cover of Jack’s smash song.
The song was originally released as a diss track against the rapper for not recognizing Brandy’s voice during an interview with Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning. Jack Harlow appeared to the 2022 BET Awards wearing a Lil Nas X t-shirt to show his support for the rapper before to his performance.
Lil Nas X accused the network of “homophobia” because Lil Nas X was not nominated for any awards at this year’s ceremony. However, Jack Harlow appeared on Lil Nas X’s top-charting track “Industry Baby,” and the two have since developed a close professional bond.
