Is BLACKPINK Jennie Going To Attend Cannes Film Festival For The Idol?

“The Idol,” an upcoming HBO TV show, has caused a stir in South Korea after it was announced that Jennie Kim, the country’s IT girl, will be part of the cast. The show’s creators are reportedly planning a screening for the Cannes Film Festival, which is scheduled to take place from May 16 to May 27. While the premiere date for “The Idol” has yet to be announced, the show is expected to debut sometime in 2023.

However, there have been a number of setbacks for the show, which has undergone significant changes behind the scenes. In April 2022, director Amy Seimetz suddenly exited the project after multiple episodes had already been completed. There have also been reports of multiple reshoots, and sources claim that the tone of the show is “disturbing” and includes intense violence against women.

Despite these criticisms, sources have stated that “The Idol” still represents a “female perspective,” with Lily-Rose Depp as the lead. Depp has defended the show’s director, Sam Levinson, stating that he is “the best director I have ever worked with” and that he creates an environment where actors feel “seen, heard, and appreciated.”

Star Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, has previously attended the Cannes Film Festival and is hopeful that “The Idol” will premiere there. However, HBO has not made any comments regarding the possibility.

Jennie Kim, the K-Pop idol who is part of the show’s cast, reportedly has a free schedule during the Cannes Film Festival, leading to speculation that she may attend the event. However, no official statement has been made regarding her attendance.

As for “The Idol” itself, HBO has released three teasers for the show, but fans are still eagerly awaiting a premiere date. Despite the behind-the-scenes troubles, many are still excited to see the show, particularly with the inclusion of Jennie Kim and the possibility of a Cannes Film Festival screening.

Only time will tell if “The Idol” will live up to expectations, but with a talented cast and crew behind it, the show has the potential to be a hit with audiences both in South Korea and around the world.
