House of Dragon Star Teases Show’s New Targaryen Queen

House of Dragon’s Olivia Cooke, recently talked about the complexity of the characters and how the show’s events will have fans wanting more. The show is the spinoff of HBO’s hit show, Game of Thrones. However, the events on the new show are timed before the events of Game of Thrones.

It is an upcoming fantasy drama series that will be premiering on HBO Max. The show will revolve around the conflict between the Starks, Lannisters and Targaryens, years before Game of Thrones. This prequel is based on author George R. R. Martin’s book, Fire and Blood.

House of Dragon will reportedly have ten episodes in the first season and will be releasing in 2022. The story will also focus on how House Targaryen fell from power in Westeros. Olivia portrays Queen Alicent Hightower of Westeros in the prequel. She is the second wife of King Viserys Targaryen and will be in conflict with her stepdaughter, Princess Rhaenyra. This conflict will be based on the right to the Iron Throne.

The actress discussed the prequel briefly with Collider as she revealed the conflict between Queen Alicent and Emma D’Arcy’s Princess Rhaenyra. She talked about how that will bring the worst in her character and went on to reference the complex nature of the other rulers.

The characters have a history of worst behaviour as they consistently have narcissistic personalities and immoral behaviours. For instance, the female rulers that followed hundred years after the House of Dragon included Cersei Lannister and the Mad Queen, Daenerys Targaryen.

House of the Dragon Set to Have Female-Centered Empowerment

Olivia hinted that her character, Queen Alicent will do whatever it takes to get her family on the Iron Throne. She said,

“She’s very complex and I think people are gonna want to see the worst in her.”

The actress’ understanding of her character is based on the expectations; which were already set in place with the eight seasons of Game of Thrones. This will only help to create an interesting and diverse portrayal on-screen. It has also been established that Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen will be key to the conflict and will bring the worst in Queen Alicent.

Game of Thrones viewers has already witnessed the dangerous dynamic between two female leads fighting for their right to the throne. Hence, it will prove interesting to see how this relationship will compare. The fans who will watch the prequel, House of the Dragon; will already know the type of acts the Kings and Queens are ready to do in the Game of Thrones world.

Female-centred empowerment, leadership and rivalry is what you will find in the show as it will be focusing on the Targaryen line falling out of power.
