Gunna may be in jail awaiting trial on RICO charges, but the Atlanta rapper is still releasing music videos to promote his most recent album, DS4EVER. Gunna debuted a music video for his song “Missing Me” in which he performs the melancholy lyrics while dressed up in sparkling jewelry against an all-white costume.
“I was hoping that you’d notice me/I’m in the sky, baby, shine like a star, baby/And I know you don’t believe in me/It’s in my heart, baby, I’m goin’ hard, baby,” Gunna sings.
Young Thug and Gunna RICO Case
Among the 28 YSL affiliates who were charged with RICO in May were Young Thug and Gunna. Gunna had already been denied bond, and despite not appearing for a second bail hearing in Fulton County Court earlier in July, he was once more kept behind bars.
The 29-year-old “pushin p” lyricist will now be imprisoned until his trial in January 2023. Gunna and his legal team have persisted in seeking his release, and on the occasion of his 29th birthday, the Drip Harder rapper published an open letter to his followers on social media.
“As a Black Man in America, it seems as though my art is only acceptable when I’m a source of entertainment for the masses,” Gunna wrote. “My art is not allowed to stand alone as entertainment, I’m not allowed that freedom as a Black Man in America.”
He continued: “For now, I don’t have my freedom. But I am innocent. I am being falsely accused and will never stop fighting to clear my name! The picture being painted of me is ugly and untrue. My fans know I love to celebrate life, I love my family, I love travel, I love music, I love my fans. I have all faith that God will grant me justice for the purity in my heart and the innocence of my actions.”
