Grammy Awards have been officially postponed, the new date will be announced soon

Due to the rapid spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant of the coronavirus, the 64th Grammy Awards will not be held in Los Angeles on January 31. On Wednesday, the Recording Academy announced that “holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks,” and that a new date will be announced “soon.”

“The Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual Grammy Awards show after careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community, and our many partners,” the group said in a joint statement with CBS, its longtime television partner, according to Variety. “Our top goal is the health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of workers who work tirelessly to put on our performance.”

COVID-19 has forced the Grammy Awards to be postponed for the second year in a row. The performance was originally scheduled for January 31, 2021, but was postponed to March 14, 2021. Meanwhile, Variety reports that the Academy and CBS are aiming for a filled event with a live audience; the Grammys generate millions in revenue, but only a fraction of that in 2021.

With 11 nominations, Jon Batiste leads the 2022 Grammy nominations, followed by Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, and H.E.R., who each have eight. The next two nominees, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo, both received seven votes. For the second year in a row, Trevor Noah, host of “The Daily Show,” will host the show.

BTS Cancels Activities In U.S.

After the Grammys announced that the awards ceremony would be postponed, K-Pop star group BTS stated that they had cancelled their travel to the United States. “We were preparing to attend the Grammys, but stopped discussing plans after hearing about the postponement,” Big Hit Music told Newsen.

The Grammy Awards have been postponed because of the current outbreak of COVID-19’s Omicron strain. They were originally set for January 31. BTS, who is nominated for Best Pop Duo or Group Performance, was scheduled to attend the ceremony as their first official activity following their hiatus.
