Gal Gadot recently talked up about her upcoming film Cleopatra, discussing how the filmmakers chose to portray the queen’s story on the big screen. The actress, who was recently lauded for her role in Red Notice, has revealed what Cleopatra has planned for her fans.
The actress said in an interview with InStyle, via People, that while she “can’t say a lot,” she can confirm that the film is about Cleopatra and her narrative. “We’re going to highlight not just how gorgeous and appealing she was, but how strategic and brilliant she was, and how much impact she had and continues to have on the world we live in today,” the actress told InStyle, as reported by People.
Cleopatra, a descendant of Ptolemy, a Macedonian general who served under Alexander the Great, was the last ruler of Egypt’s Ptolemaic dynasty.
Elizabeth Taylor most recently portrayed Cleopatra in the 1963 film Cleopatra, which cost 20th Century Fox $31 million and nearly bankrupted the studio. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards and won four of them.
According to Entertainment Weekly, a new Cleopatra picture starring Angelina Jolie was announced in 2011 and was in development at Sony Pictures, but it never came true.
She also mentioned that she has seen many Cleopatra movies, but the way the makers of the next film have depicted the character is different. “But I think we’re telling a story that the rest of the world needs to hear right now,” Gadot remarked.
Gadot celebrated her casting as Cleopatra in a tweet in 2020, when the movie was first revealed. “I enjoy going on new adventures, the thrill of completing new projects, and the thrill of bringing new stories to life. For a long time, I’ve wanted to recount the narrative of Cleopatra. This A team has made my life so much easier!! “she’d stated.
