Fans Think Joshua Bassett Is Throwing Shade At Olivia Rodrigo After ‘Deja Vu’ Release

Olivia Rodrigo released a new song called, “déjà vu” on April 1. And this has turned into another drama including Joshua Bassett.

The song is about an ex starting a new relationship and seeing the former beau experience all these moments that had been shared with someone else. Later in the day, the actor took to TikTok to share a new video with his followers.

He said that he is freaking out because he just found “this” out. The singer shared, “Did you guys know that the world doesn’t revolve around you? Isn’t that crazy?” it was clearly sarcastic and he gave no explanation for the post which led to some fans assuming this was in response to Olivia’s song.

A follower tweeted, “Joshua’s TikTok today was DEFO shade at Olivia”. Meanwhile, another commented, “Hmm. I think I’ve heard this before? Or maybe it’s just deja vu? Anyone else?” But since it was on April 1st, some assumed this might just be an April Fool’s prank. Others argued that people shouldn’t just make assumptions.

“This is kinda getting out of hand,” one commenter wrote. “Not everything Josh says is about Liv, and the other way around as well. Let them live their lives, geez.” Olivia and Joshua star together in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. They had previously sparked dating rumors.

But after Olivia shared a TikTok video about failed relationships, few followers assumed that the two had gone their separate ways. Unfortunately, that was not the end of them having fans make assumptions and spread rumors.

“It’s resonating with people because of how emotional it is, and I think everything else is not important.”

Back in November, Joshua posted a TikTok video with Sabrina Carpenter. When Olivia released her superhit song, Drivers License, it was speculated that it was about the rumored love triangle. But to this very day, Olivia has never confirmed or denied these rumors.

“I totally understand people’s curiosity with the specifics of who the song’s about and what it’s about, but to me, that’s really the least important part of the song,” she told Billboard in January. “It’s resonating with people because of how emotional it is, and I think everything else is not important.”

Sabrina also seemingly responded to Olivia’s drivers license by releasing her own song called Skin. This led to fans assuming if it was dropped in response to the song by Olivia. But Sabrina refuted these rumors as she claimed, “The song isn’t calling out one single person.”

“Some lines address a specific situation,” the 21-year-old actress wrote on Instagram, “while other lines address plenty of other experiences I’ve had this past year.” Joshua also released a song called Lie Lie Lie and he claimed that he wrote the song after he found out that someone close to him had been lying about him behind his back for a long time.

Naturally, now fans are wondering if déjà vu is also a part of the entire drama between the exes. Olivia had told Zane Lowe that she had writtern the tune a month after writing drivers license. That is the process that she started off of the lyrics she already made.

“I’m sort of obsessed with the concept of deja vu. Like, I really love that concept. I get déjà vu all the time,” she explained during the New Music Daily interview. “So, I thought it would be, like, a cool play on words to kind of use déjà vu as a metaphor for, like, how—you know, it’s a very universal thing that happens when, like, you break up with someone, and they get somebody else, and you kind of see them living, like, the life that you lived with someone else….Like, [it’s] a super universal thing that I think happens to everyone that we don’t really talk about a ton.”
