Elizabeth Olsen’s character, Wanda Maximoff, has not been a part of the MCU since the very beginning. However, her character has added more prominence to Avengers.
In addition to fans loving the character, it has also been because of Elizabeth Olsen’s portrayal of Wanda. The character became popular in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially during WandaVision. Wanda appeared initially in Avengers: Age of Ultron and has continued to be a part of five films more.
This includes the very recent release of the MCU, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But the catch here is that Wanda is not the goody-two-shoes as she has been so far. She is the villain.
Elizabeth’s portrayal as Wanda has been compared to her performance in Marvel’s first series, WandaVision. Wanda had to come to terms with her new identity as Scarlet Witch in the finale of WandaVision. However, to save the town of Westview from her own mind control, the character had to sacrifice being with her children Billy and Tommy.
They are unable to survive outside of Wanda’s hex around Westview. Wanda’s loss of her children is dealt with in Doctor Strange 2. She exposes herself to the Darkhold aka the Book of the Damned. The book is corrupted with black magic which consumes Wanda into an obsession to find her children.
She wanted America Chavez’s powers of going through different universes so that she can live in one where her sons still exist. However, this would lead to America being destroyed and Doctor Strange is in an effort to save her from Wanda.
Elizabeth Reveals Signing Extensions All The Time
By the end of Doctor Strange 2, it was uncertain if she will be a part of the future MCU projects. There can be a possibility that Marvel will extend her contract but Elizabeth is yet to jump on board of the multi-project deal.
This makes Wanda’s return doubtful. Elizabeth has previously expressed her desire to return as Wanda. There are also various possibilities for her character in the future. Wanda and White Vision, last seen in WandaVision, are yet to share screens together after the finale. The actress and fans definitely want to see them together as well.
Elizabeth talked about her contract with Marvel. She said,
“I sign extensions every time they want me to do a movie. I just signed a very short one at the beginning, so everything’s constantly just, it’s always adjusting for me. No. I don’t think of this either as the end.”
She insinuated her possible return as Wanda in the MCU. Lizzie described it as “weird” that she is expecting to return. However, she claimed no one has told her she is doing anything. The actress admitted that she is assuming Marvel will want her again but she does not know to what capacity.
She added, “I don’t know to what capacity, but I hope I’m back. I hope there’s also more fun to be had in something different. Where do we go? I feel like we’ve done so much with her. It’s been really a wild couple years with her.”
