Elizabeth Olsen has opened up about the mental health journey she faced when 21 years old. The actress was suffering from panic attacks and had no idea what they were until she turned 21. She got panic attacks and anxiety attacks every hour.
In an interview with Variety, Elizabeth Olsen spoke about suffering panic attacks. The WandaVision Actress use to live on 13th Street between 6th and 7th. Once she was crossing 6th Avenue at 14th Street, and she wasn’t unable to cross that street due to a panic attack. So she stood there up against the wall and “[she] just thought she was going to drop dead at any moment.”
Then she says how there was a shift in her body, that she went from “cold to hot, hot to cold, full to hungry, hungry to full.” She knew something was wrong. Elizabeth adds, ” An Ent doctor said that it could be vertigo-related because it was all about truly spinning. So it was an interesting six months.”
Elizabeth opened up about which tactics she used to deal with such panic attacks. She use to do an acting exercise named ‘repetition’ , where one makes observations about a person in front and tries to connect. When she use to walk down the street, she started naming things she saw on street and said it loud. This exercise helped her remove the spiraling thoughts from her brain.
The 33-year-old actress didn’t want to take medications but she still kept them with her in the bag in case of an emergency. She adds, ” It’s very weird because I was not an anxious child. I was very loud and confident.”
