Elisabeth Moss, Michelle MacLaren & Daina Reid Will Direct The Shining Girls Show

The upcoming series of Apple TV+, The Shining Girls has roped in Elisabeth Moss, Michelle MacLaren, and Daina Reid to direct the series in rotation. The series is a science-fiction thriller which is based on Lauren Beukes’ best selling novel with the same name. The book was published back in 2013 and won the British Fantasy Society’s August Derleth Award for Best Horror Novel.

Deadline has confirmed that Elisabeth, Michelle and Daina will make up The Shining Girls an all-female directorial ensemble. There will be eight episodes in season 1 and it will be divided among the three women. Michelle will be directing the first two episodes, while Elisabeth will be taking the third and fourth episode. Daina will be in charge of the last four episodes.

Elisabeth will also serve as an executive producer and lead actor in the show. She will be portraying the role of a reporter based in Chicago names Kirby Mizrachi. Kirby achieves more success in her career after she escapes death and tries to hunt down her killer.

The Shining Girls revolves around a serial killer in Chicago during the 1930s. He discovers a mysterious time-travelling machine but in order to use it, he has to murder young women but not just women but shining girls. But when one of his victims survives, his travels are derailed as she seeks revenge against him.

The series will be helmed by the showrunner, Silka Luisa, on top of the all-female directorial team. It will be a new way of looking at a story involving female victims handled by a female team. Previously, female victims have been portrayed as weak but victims like the one in the venture, have plenty of strength.
