Dogebonk beats Elon Musk’s Aim of Launching The First Crypto-funded Space Mission

Yesterday, a developer at Dogebonk tweeted: “Sorry Elon, but we beat Dogecoin as the first memecoin in space.” Since then, the twitter hashtag #SorryElon has been on trending for some time.

Elon Musk, a major influencer of the crypto market, an enthusiastic supporter of Dogecoin, and the CEO of Tesla, vowed his intentions of sending a satellite into space by 2022 – funded entirely in Dogecoin earlier this year. The goal was to be the one behind the first cryptocurrency-funded space mission. However, it flew out of the window when Dogebonk beat them to the chase on December 15.

While the Doge-1 rocket mission by Elon Musk is still under way, the Dogebonk meme coin has already achieved a successful stratospheric launch. Their project to space was partially paid for with the DOBO cryptocurrency.

BrinkWire also noted that the Dogebonk community launched their memecoin to the edge of space using a stratospheric weather balloon, where it seems to have floated for hours. An accompanying banner was also launched into space with the memecoin, which was recorded by an onboard camera.

The banner showed Elon Musk crying in the background, while the Dogebonk was portrayed ‘bonking’ the Dogecoin cryptocurrency in the foreground. Planet Earth was partially visible behind this banner as it floated on the edge of space.

Musk’s Earlier Stated Plans For Doge-1

In regards to Doge-1, Elon Musk first tweeted in April this year that “SpaceX is going to put a literal Dogecoin on the literal moon,” in intimation to his plans for launching the first crypto-funded space mission. SpaceX vice president Tom Ochinero also commented by tweeting, “We’re excited to launch DOGE-1 to the Moon!”

A CubeSat, which would utilise onboard cameras and sensors to gather “lunar-spatial intelligence”, was also included in the Doge-1’s mission plans. The space venture would allegedly be funded for with the Dogecoin cryptocurrency.

But regardless of all this, Doge-1 was challenged by the Dogebonk community, with their recent venture into space receiving a lot of attention on Twitter. A sense of novelty in Musk’s plans has certainly been lost as they still prepare to take off with their crypto-associated space mission.
