Courtney Cox revealed to her fans on Friday that she will be a part of Scream 5. The actress took to social media to make the announcement saying she cannot wait to see this face along with the iconic Scream mask.
This comes after David Arquette, Courtney’s ex-husband, confirms that he will be a part of the cast as well. The fifth installment of the movie is highly-anticipated by fans all over.
Earlier, MovieWeb claimed that Courtney will be approached to play her role in the sequel again. However, the actress did not respond at the time. Two months ago, in May, Arquette confirmed his presence to revive his role as Sheriff Dewey Riley for the reboot.
‘I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new,’ Arquette said. ‘Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven’s legacy.’
David and Courtney got married in 1999 while she was still filming her hit series, Friends. They separated in 2013 after giving birth to their daughter, Coco. In total there were four Scream movies and this will be the fifth installment. Also in the films were Neve Campbell, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, Matthew Lillard, Drew Barrymore, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Joshua Jackson.
The first film was released in 1996 and it was directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson. Sequels came in 1997, 2000 and 2011. The filming is expected to take place later this year in Wilmington, North Carolina. Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are leading the reboot.
‘I’m excited to reteam with David and work with Jamie, Guy and Radio Silence on the next ‘Scream,’ Williamson told Variety. He further said their take on the movie is both original, inventive and it honors Wes’ legacy in a wonderful way. Williamson also reveals that Ready Or Not is his favorite horror film of last year. And that he is thrilled to be a part of it.
Variety added that ‘other legacy cast members’ may enter the film. In early May, Campbell, 46, said she was originally ‘apprehensive’ to reprise her role as author and crisis counselor Sidney Prescott in the horror series due to the 2015 death of the creator Craven.
Neve explained that Scream movies are what they are because of him being such a genius. She added, ‘But [directing duo Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin] have come to me with such a great appreciation for Wes’ work, and they really want to honor it. That meant a lot to me. Hopefully, we’ll be able to do it!’ Campbell revealed that she has been having conversations with the Ready or Not filmmakers. But the shoot has been delayed due to the pandemic.
She further revealed it is a little hard because of the coronavirus to know what will happen. Campbell further added, ‘Hopefully, we can see eye to eye on all the elements that have to come into place for it to happen.’
Recently, the Friends trio, Jennifer, Lisa, and Courtney Cox, joined forces to share an important message. They encouraged their fans to vote for this election in November. The trio is waiting for their reunion with the cast of Friends for their HBO Max reunion special. But, unfortunately, it has been pushed back due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
