Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega Discuss AEW’s Double Or Nothing Match

This weekend is AEW’s Double Or Nothing event, but for the first time in the history, neither Kenny Omega nor Cody Rhodes will be in attendance. Both men were instrumental in the first-ever AEW Double Or Nothing show, with Cody competing against Dustin Rhodes in what endures one of AEW’s biggest ever matches.

In the meantime, Omega was defeated by Chris Jericho in the main event, with the winner going on to compete in the inaugural AEW World Championship. Of course, Cody is no longer a part of the company, despite being one of the original Executive Vice Presidents, and he is focused on his upcoming Hell In A Cell match against Seth Rollins. In response to a fan’s question about his absence from the show this year, Cody wrote on Twitter, “I’ve got my sights set on being inside Hell in a Cell, but I’m certain that it will be just fine without me.”

I imbued that canvas with a lot of love and blood. That chapter made me very proud. Kenny Omega is still under contract with AEW and could be seen backstage, but he is presently on the shelf healing from a variety of medical conditions and has not competed in a fight since AEW’s Full Gear in 2021, when he lost the AEW Championship to Hangman Page.

Omega also reacted on social media to the same fan who said it is not the same with out pair, saying, “I’ll either be around in spirit or watching via satellite uplink someplace, if it counts?” The two men were involved in key contests at the 2020 AEW Double Or Nothing event, where Cody defeated Lance Archer to become the inaugural TNT Champion. Omega, on either hand, was back in the spotlight as he competed in the Stadium Stampede against The Inner Circle.

Eventually, Omega defended the AEW World Championship against PAC and Orange Cassidy in a triple threat last year, whereas Cody raced in singles action against Anthony Ogogo. Despite their absence, the 2022 edition of this year’s event is shaping up to be another strong one, with Hangman Page set to confront CM Punk in the main show.
