Chris Rock’s Show Sales Skyrocket After Will Smith Slapgate Incident At Oscars 2022

Tickets for Chris Rock’s comedy show have sold out only hours after he was smacked on stage in front of millions of spectators at the 94th Academy Awards. Will Smith was the one who literally punched him in the face.

TickPick tweeted, “We sold more tickets to see Chris Rock overnight than we did in the past month combined”. He confirmed that the drastic increase in sales for the comedian’s event skyrocketed.

As you know, Chris was presenting for the award for Best Documentary. He joked that Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith should feature in GI Jane 2. It was a reference to her shaved head which was a result of her suffering from alopecia. This disorder causes hair loss and the joke appeared to have not gone down well with Will.

The actor stormed to the stage and smacked Rock. Viewers, as well as celebrities, were stunned by the on-stage assault of the comedian. The internet seemed to have taken the side of Chris Rock for how he handled the situation. This also resulted in the comedian’s sales jumping by a factor of ten.

Tickets for the comedian’s next shows for March 30 to April 1, 2022, at the Wilbur Theater in Boston, have touched the roof after the incident. Other than the increase in sales, the ticket prices have also increased. According to Variety, tickets went up from a minimum of $46 per person on March 18 to a minimum of $341.

As per another Newsweek source, the price of tickets per person increased from $338 on Monday morning to $450 within an hour. The Oscars incident might have given a significant lift as the internet uproared.

An Official Investigation Has Been Launched To Look Into The Incident

Following these appearances, the comedian will be live on his Ego Death World Tour. The show will begin on April 2nd and he promised all-new material and an insightful program that will be personal and amusing.

Will Smith chose to apologize to Rock after numerous trolls online. He admitted in an Instagram post that he was out of line to have smacked the comedian. The actor was slammed online for his demeanor as he apologized to the Academy after his win but not Rock.

Not only Smith, but various Hollywood celebrities called out the actor. However, celebrities who stood up for Will’s first Oscar were also slammed. Will’s apology seemed to be bringing the temperature down a notch. However, many still believe it’s a forced apology and was only done because of an official investigation that has launched on the matter.
