While filming Sex & the City, Chris Noth tells the wonderful story of how he and Sarah Jessica Parker became friends. The Carrie Diaries, a six-season HBO series about four women navigating life and love in New York City; was so popular that it spawned two sequel films and a prequel series. Then, earlier this year, HBO announced a ten-episode revival; And Just Like That…, with a December 2021 release date.
Noth, who starred alongside Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw in Sex & the City as her sometimes-boyfriend Mr Big, returned for the second series. And Just Like That… episode 1 startled viewers by having Mr Big die in Carrie’s arms after a heart attack after Noth’s return as Big was confirmed.
Despite the revival’s mixed reviews, Big’s untimely demise demonstrated Sex & the City’s enduring appeal. After its stock dropped due to a Peloton bike’s role in Big’s death; the fitness equipment manufacturer Peloton published advertising portraying Noth. Nonetheless, as startling as it was; the first episode of And Just Like That… brought Carrie and Big’s difficult relationship to a satisfactory and heartwarming conclusion.
Chris Noth had the opportunity to speak with Vogue about his real-life connection with Sarah Jessica Parker after his character’s death; and unlike Mr Big and Carrie, the two’s friendship is far more peaceful. Noth told Vogue about how he met Parker in 1998 shooting the Sex & the City pilot after discovering a shared passion. He and she reportedly became friends because of their shared love of musical theatre. Read the rest of Noth’s storey here:
Noth’s happy recollection of how his and Parker’s friendship began demonstrates how solid their bond is even after more than two decades.
“I think we bonded over Stephen Sondheim. I’m not a musical theater actor—I mean, in my dreams, I’d love to be. I’ve listened to Sweeney Todd a million times, and she’s a very astute student of musical theater, so when I started singing Sweeney Todd songs, she joined right in. And that was the beginning, as they say in Casablanca, of a beautiful friendship.”
Noth’s moving recollection takes us behind the scenes of Sex & the City. Because the popular series focuses on the characters’ relationships throughout their lives; it’s only natural to wonder about the cast members’ relationships as well. Noth’s happy recollection of how his and Parker’s friendship began demonstrates how solid their bond is even after more than two decades.
Actors who have played such renowned characters for a long time are frequently confused with the roles they play. The contrast between Noth and his character is highlighted by his clear admiration for his and Parker’s friendship. While Mr. Big and Carrie’s relationship was frequently questioned, Noth and Parker’s love appears to be as pure as they come.
Whether or not they like Mr. Big, no one can deny the chemistry he had with Carrie. Perhaps the performers’ close connection contributed to the on-screen chemistry. This narrative is like a balm to those Sex & the City lovers who are still in tears after Mr. Big and Carrie’s tearful farewell.
