Celtics Destroy The Defending Champions To Move On To The Next Round

The series between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics has remained undecided for 6 games, resulting in a dreaded Game 7. The Celtics have a slight advantage as they have the home crowd behind them in the matchup. However, Game 7 is a different animal and anything can happen in a Game 7. So both teams need to bring out more than just their A-Game to stay afloat in the competition.

The Boston Celtics went with their starting lineup of Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Grant Williams and Al Horford. The Milwaukee Bucks started with Jrue Holiday, Grayson Allen, Wesley Matthews, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez.

Game Summary

The opening tip announced the start of the most intense game of the 2022 playoffs yet. The Celtics scored the first basket with a 3-pointer from Grant Williams. But the Bucks were quick to follow up and then proceeded to go on a 10-3 run.

The inexperienced Celtics needed some time to regain their composure as the pressure of Game 7 was enormous especially while going up against the defending champions. Giannis quickly went to work as he led the Bucks’ offense. The Bucks went for a quick draw match and they created a decent lead by the end of the 1st quarter.

In the 2ndquarter, the Celtics were taking none of the Bucks’ abuse and they focused their energy into stopping Giannis. They did so successfully while the other Bucks players were able to get it going. This was a boon for the Celtics as that meant they could cover Giannis and just frazzle the other players by simply contesting.

On the offensive end, Grant Williams and Jayson Tatum took the helm of the offense and they went off as they outscored the Bucks doublehandedly. They shot 3s and Tatum even took the midrange game and he was simply abusing the defense. The Celtics had a firm grip on the lead by the end of the 1st half with a score of 48-43.

Once the 2nd half started, that was the moment the game started to slip from the Bucks’ hands. The Celtics were calmly making plays and scoring. Grant Williams continued to torch the Bucks from the 3-point land while Jaylen Brown was pitching in with his layups and midrange.

The most surprising was to see Giannis miss his shots. He was attacking the rim but nothing was going in. Jrue Holiday stepped up but that wasn’t enough to match the Celtics offense. As a result, the Celtics continued to pile on the lead.

In the 4th quarter, the Celtics continued their onslaught while the Bucks completely fell off. They could not find the net and make the shots that they were supposed to make. Their defense lacked energy and most of all they lacked their leader’s voice. The Celtics did not slow down on their offense and they continued to pour in till the final buzzer sounded.

Box Score

Grant Williams was the unlikely hero as he led the Celtics in scoring putting up 27 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. Jayson Tatum followed him up with 23 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and a block. Jaylen Brown contributed with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals.

For the Bucks, Giannis led the Bucks in scoring with a double-double of 25 points, 20 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals and a block but he was shooting an abysmal 38.5% from the field. Holiday supported him with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals. Brook Lopez scored double-double as well with 15 point, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.

The Celtics move on

The Boson Celtics have claimed Game 7 with a scoreline of 109-81. They have clinched the series and can say with their head hed high that they were responsible for dethroning the defending champions. They now move on to the Eastern Conference Finals where the Miami Heat are waiting to battle it out to go to the Finals.

Aftermath of the Bucks

For the Milwaukee Bucks, this is the end of their championship run. The outcome might have been different if Khris Middleton would have been healthy but then again that is an outcome we will never know about. There will be many questions surrounding the Bucks after their failure but it is a lock that they will be going with the same roster. This roster has the ability to win a championship and next season they are going to reclaim it.
