Cardi reposted a clip of Trump supporters holding banners of Trump 2020 and having a party amid the lockdown. The supporters were dancing to Cardi’s song and holding up banners supporting Trump. It seemed like a boat party, with young supporters wearing the ‘Make America Great Again’ hats.
The rapper wasn’t pleased with their raving and partying to her song. She called out the Trump supporters asking, “Wasn’t republican conservative[s] throwing a little fit bout this song ?” She continued saying this bothers her and she is going to call the FBI on the party. Cardi also noted that they are not quaranting.
Cardi was also taking shots at conservative talk show host Ben Shapiro wondering why Trump supporters would be jamming to her song. The group of Trump supporters partying did not maintain social distancing or wear masks, ignoring the safety precautions needed to be taken amid pandemic.
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion are over the moon. The rappers took to Instagram to inform everybody that their song WAP is number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
WAP Breaks Records
WAP debuts at 93 million U.S. streams, the most for a song’s opening week in history. Cardi gushed about the same fact and told her followers to look. She posted a video reading the tweets with impressive stats. WAP has the biggest sales week in 2020 and holds the number one position on the digital song sales chart.
“I’m gonna get glammed up and I’m gonna give you a testimony,” she continued. “I want to say thank you so much Megan Thee Stallion. I hope you’re as happy as I am.” The rapper captioned the video saying this is the fourth time she is on number one on Billboard. She said she is thankful and wants to hug the Lord. Cardi gushes, “Thank you soo much @theestallion.I don’t even know how to thank you, I wish I can give you a big a** hug!!!”
Megan also expressed her happiness via Instagram and revealed she and Cardi were screaming on the phone. “FIRST FEMALE RAP COLLABORATION IN HISTORY TO DEBUT AT NUMBER 1 😭😭😭 God is so great 🙏🏾 THANK YALL!!!,” she wrote. “@iamcardib thank you for all your words of encouragement, thank you for all the laughs, & thank you for having me on the record 💕💕💕💕 #WAP”
Cardi and Megan debuted the track earlier this month, with a star-studded music video that featured Kylie Jenner, Normani, and more. The song met with a lot of controversies but Cardi was more than happy because it meant people are listening to it more.
Although the WAP music video was a superhit and was trending for a long time, it didn’t happen without a cost. Health was a priority before shooting the very steamy music video.
Cardi Spent $100,000 On COVID Testing
Cardi B revealed in an interview with i-D on Thursday that it was essential for everyone to be tested for Covid-19. She explained that it was weird to shoot during corona. The rapper said they had to spend $100,000 just on testing. She confirmed that everybody had to get tested for the virus.
Explaining further, Cardi said the pandemic also affected how the animals were included for the video. She said they had a tiger and a leopard there but they did not film with them because of safety and the coronavirus. The rapper said. “We spliced those scenes together.”
WAP music as well as the video was full of controversies. Cardi addressed the controversy surrounding the raunchy lyrics. She said she was surprised that it was so controversial. The rapper said she knew it was going to have a big impact because of her and Megan. However, she said she did not know it was going to be so controversial. Cardi said, “I never expected that you know, conservatives and Republicans were going to be talking about the song.”
She admitted that she did not think the song was as vulgar as they said it was. The rapper added, “Like, I’m so used to it. I’m such a freak that I didn’t think it would be a big deal. I didn’t think people would think it was so out of this world …”
However, Cardi says she does not mind criticism as it brings more attention to the song. She said it does not make her angry rather it makes her happy. The ‘I Like It’ rapper added as the critics talk more about it the number keeps going up. She said, “At the end of the day, whatever they’re saying, the numbers speak for themselves.”
Controversies Surrounding WAP
The WAP music video has also slammed for its big cat imagery and celebrity cameos as well as it’s NSFW lyrics. Carole Baskin, Tiger King star said that the video sends a horrible message and it is harmful to the future of big cats. Cardi clapped back referencing the allegations that were made against her on Netflix docuseries Tiger King by zoo owner Joe Exotic. The rapper said it is ridiculous and clapped back saying she killed her husband.
Meanwhile, fans were upset about the way Kylie Jenner and Normani were featured in the video. When Kylie enters the video, the music stops while Normani is seen dancing on the beats. Fans were so upset that they even made a petition to have Kylie removed from the video.
The rapper responded to the controversy saying Normani is one of the best female artists that dances. She asked her fans why will she open a door if she is a dancer. Cardi said, “Please tell me how that would make sense? The best part of the song is the beat & hook it what makes you want to shake your ass.”
