Brie Larson’s Carol Denvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel is going to fight her onscreen match. Zawe Ashton has been cast in the next installment of Captain Marvel.
The actress will be coming face-to-face with Brie as the sequel’s antagonist. The movie is being directed by Nia DaCosta and will be the follow-up of 2019’s hit film, Captain Marvel. The script is written by Megan McDonnell who is also the story editor on the Disney Plus series, WandaVision.
However, it is unclear what character Zawe is playing in the film. Sources claimed that the actress will be the main villain. The cast includes Brie, Iman Vellani who will be reprising her role as Ms. Marvel from the upcoming series of the same name. Captain Marvel 2 will also include Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau who is one of the leads of WandaVision as well.
The upcoming sequel is expected to release in theaters on November 11, 2022. The first movie, Captain Marvel broke ground being the first entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be solely on a female superhero.
It became a massive commercial success and earned more than $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office. The first movie was directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden. It will take place in the ‘90s and centers on Captain Marvel’s adventures as the Earth gets caught in an intergalactic conflict between two alien civilizations.
The upcoming sequel is reportedly going to take place in the present day. Zawe is famous for her work in Netflix’s art satire, Velvet Buzzsaw. She was cast opposite Jake Gyllenhaal. The actress was also in the Broadway Revival of Betrayal along with Tom Hiddleston. She was also a part of the TV series, Fresh Meat, Tom Ford’s thriller, Nocturnal Animals as well as the psychological horror film, Greta.
