BTS member V, also known as Kim Taehyung, has set a new record with his self-written, composed, and produced song, “Sweet Night.” The track, which was released as part of the soundtrack for the South Korean television series Itaewon Class, has now surpassed 300 million streams on Spotify. This milestone makes “Sweet Night” the first Korean OST to achieve such a feat.
The indie-pop song was released on March 13, 2020, by Vlending Company. It debuted at number 39 on South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart in the chart issue dated March 8–14, 2020. On its component charts, the song debuted at number three on the Gaon Download Chart, number 89 on the Gaon Streaming Chart, and number 31 on the Gaon BGM Chart. In the following week, it climbed to number 14 on the Gaon Digital Chart and number 22 on the Gaon Streaming Chart.
V was actively involved in the creation of the song, from writing the lyrics to choosing the right instruments to match the specific sound he had in mind. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he mentioned that the song started from him feeling that he “really wanted a good night’s sleep.” Originally, it was supposed to be part of V’s mixtape, but he decided to release it as part of the OST for Itaewon Class.
The song has been well-received by fans, with V saying that he created it with his fans in mind, to help them heal when they listen to it. It’s no surprise that the song has achieved such massive success, given the widespread popularity of V’s talent as a musician.
Aside from his work with BTS, V has also released solo music, including the tracks “Winter Bear” and “Scenery,” which he wrote and produced. He has received praise for his musical abilities and has even been called a “genius” by some industry professionals.
