Bridgerton’s Rege-Jean Page To Star In ‘Dungeons & Dragons’

Rege-Jean Page is set to have his next project after breaking out as the star of Netflix’s superhit series, Bridgerton. The actor has been roped in for a deal as the leading role in Paramount’s Dungeons and Dragons.

He will be joining the cast which includes Chris Pine, Justice Smith, and Michelle Rodriguez. The venture will be directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, which is based on the popular fantasy role-playing game from Wizards of the Coast.

The duo had also written the latest version of the script that was based on a previous draft by Michael Gilio. The Dungeons & Dragons game is well-known for its war games, treasure hunts, campaigns, camaraderie and reversals of fortune.

This is all in a setting that combines humans, elves, orcs and hundreds of other creatures. The game is also known to use multisided dice in gameplay and is overseen by a host known as the Dungeon Master. It is still unclear if the movie adaptation will be a fantasy film which is set in the world of the game. It is also unknown if the storytelling and game-playing aspects will be included in the venture.

The movie is being produced by Jeremy Latcham through his deal with studio eOne, Hasbro’s entertainment arm. Brian Goldner who is also from Hasbro will be producing. Both Hasbro and Paramount will be jointly producing and funding the project.

The Bridgerton actor starred as the beloved Duke of Hastings in the Shonda Rhimes-produced drama. According to Netflix, the venture has been watched by more than 82 million accounts in its first month as it became the biggest series ever on Netflix. Rege is also set to host Saturday Night Live this weekend and his previous feature credits include Mortal Engines and period romance Sylvie’s Love.

Bridgerton’s Ratings Confirmed By Netflix

Netflix confirmed the huge ratings achieved by Bridgerton, a week after its release. The streaming service took to its social media to inform fans that the Regency-era series is projected to have been streamed in 63 million households.

This comes after the end of its first four weeks of its release. The show, We Can Be Heroes also garnered about 44 million households in the same timeframe. The figures have set a new record for Netflix as its biggest viewing week between Christmas and New Year’s ever.

Bridgerton revolves around the escapades of the Bridgerton family. Their daughter, Daphne played by Phoebe Dynevor makes a romantic agreement with Duke Simon Basset to relieve themselves of societal pressures. However, things start getting complicated from that point.

The show is created by Chris Van Dusen and is produced by Shonda Rhimes. It is an eight-part series that is based on Julia Quinn’s bestselling novels. And it is narrated by Dame Julie Andrews. Van had revealed recently that the show could be around for a few years at the least.

“The bedrock of the first season is really Simon and Daphne’s love story,” he said. The creator further shared that their focus is on the eldest Bridgerton daughter. However, he also added that there are eight Bridgerton books or eight Bridgerton siblings; and he would love to explore love stories and romance for all of them.

In season one of the show, the identity of Bridgerton’s Lady Whistledown is revealed. The second season has yet to be announced by Netflix but the initial signs are promising.
