Boston Celtics Come Out On Top To Grab Game 3

Game 3 of the finals are underway. The Boston Celtics have homecourt advantage for the next two games, meaning that the fans and cheerleaders are all going to support their home team for getting the victory. Getting two victories in a row will mean that the Celtics will go up by 3-1 in the series which may as well be the end of the Finals. However, if the Golden State Warriors were to win these 2 games, then they will be heading home for Game 5 of the Finals and that will be the end of the Celtics.

The Boston Celtics went with their starting lineup of Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Al Horford and Robert Williams III. The Golden State Warriors started with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green and Kevon Looney.

Game Summary

The Golden State Warriors controlled the opening tip and Green instantly went for a layup to score the first points for the Warriors. But Jaylen Brown went on the offensive and scored a 3 for the Celtics. They then proceeded to go on a 10-0 run before the Warriors could answer back. Although the Warriors cut off the Celtics streak, there was no stopping Brown.

Brown was hitting 3-pointers and attacking the rim which gave the Celtics a huge boost early on. The Warriors tried to rally back but they were missing a lot of 3s. That is mostly due to the Celtics contesting every shot that the Warriors were putting up.

In the 2nd quarter, the Warriors kept moving the ball and making sure that everyone got touches. The Celtics defense got frazzled. Ultimately, Thompson, Curry and Wiggins were the 3 spears who were leading the Warriors’ charge.

Although things were looking good for the Warriors on the offensive end, they still were unable to stop the Celtics defensively at all. The Celtics moved the ball around and their offense was guided by Jayson Tatum. He scored and drew the defenders towards him leaving the rest of his teammate open which in turn led to points. The Celtics led the 1st half with a scoreline of 68-56.

In the 2nd half, the Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson took the bull by the horns as they went on a 3-point frenzy. They combined for 25 points in the 3rd quarter. The Celtics scored some points but the Warriors had cut down the deficit significantly.

The 4th quarter was a slugfest as both teams struggled to shoot. The Celtics handled the situation better as they had their fans behind them. Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart were handling the offense. The Warriors could not seem to hit their groove in the closing quarters and soon they had some other things to worry about.

In a missed attempt from Jayson Tatum, the ball was in the air leading to some collisions between the Warriors and the Celtics. While trying to grab the ball, Al Horford landed on Stephen Curry’s led which led to the sharpshooter getting a leg injury. Draymond Green grabbed Marcus Smart to stop the play which led to him fouling out of the game.

This was a huge blow for the Warriors as they still had a mountain to climb without two of their starting players. Eventually, the Warriors failed to rally back and the Celtics easily secured the lead till the final buzzer sounded.

Box Score

Jaylen Brown led the Boston Celtics in scoring with 27 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and a block. Jayson Tatum followed him up with 26 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and a steal. Marcus Smart however, made the difference in the game as he went off for 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

For the Warriors, Stephen Curry led them on offense with 31 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Klay Thompson followed him up with 25 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a block. Andrew Wiggins provided some impact as he went for 18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

Takeaways of Game 3

The Boston Celtics claimed Game 3 with a scoreline of 116-100. They now have a 2-1 lead in the series and it sure looks like the 3-1 lead is very much a possibility. The Celtics are in a good position if their players continue to perform as they have been.

For the Golden State Warriors, there some concerns revolving around Curry’s injury as he is uncertain whether he will be available for Game 4. Klay Thompson needs to take more efficient shots as although he is putting up the numbers his efficiency has taken a huge hit. The Warriors need him to perform if they want to win the title.
