Benedict Cumberbatch On Banned Of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Due To LGBTQ Character

Hollywood big releases had Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness in count, but sadly few countries have banned it. The movie is less than a week away from its global release. Produced under the banner of Marvel Cinematic Universe, movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.

Indeed, movie has created worldwide buzz and fans are eagerly waiting for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness. However, movie faces a banned in Saudi Arabia due to the involvement of LGBTQ+ character. And we have the actor finally speaking about the banned, says ‘Repressive Regimes’.

Those who don’t know, Marvel’s Doctor Strange latest part will not release in Saudi Arabia as the country bans it. And reason for this is that 12 second scene featuring entrant America Chavez (played by Xochitl Gomez) while she refers to her two mums.

Benedict Cumberbatch Reacted

According to NME, Benedict Cumberbatch said, “It’s difficult not to become emotional about it, to be honest. But it is, I’m afraid, an expected disappointment. We’ve come to know from those repressive regimes that their lack of tolerance is exclusionary to people who deserve to be not only included but celebrated for who they are, and made to feel a part of a society and a culture and not punished for their s*xuality”.

The actor further said that he truly feels out of step with his surroundings when he thinks about it. Let alone where we’re at globally as a culture. Isn’t tokenism (referring to America Chavez who is gay in the comics). In The Doctor Strange 2 Trailer, Patrick Stewart Reacts To Professor X.

“We’ve included her because of how awesome she is as a character. And (her s*xuality is) just one aspect of her character. And that’s all it should be. We still have to fight, we still have to push for inclusion and equality and I’m very glad in a small way but on a very big canvas, Marvel and Disney are doing that”, Doctor Strange added. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness will be released in cinemas on May 5.
