The 2023 Grammys ceremony was a night to remember for many, but for Ben Affleck, it seemed to be just another night of duty. While his wife, Jennifer Lopez, was having a blast, Ben appeared to be pretty uninterested in being at the biggest night in music.
The actor’s apathy was noticed by many fans on Twitter, who claimed that he looked “bored” during the telecast’s numerous cutaways of the couple.
Many Twitter users compared Ben to a husband being dragged to a work event and praised the show’s director for capturing the actor’s expression of boredom. During the “Back to Motown” medley, Jennifer was seen happily dancing along, while Ben appeared to be stoned-faced.
One Twitter user even set a video of Ben’s dull expression to Simon and Garfunkel’s “Sound of Silence,”; reminiscent of the “Sad Affleck” viral video from 2016.
Despite Ben’s lack of enthusiasm, Jennifer put on a big smile when the couple was on camera; even nudging her husband to look livelier. Jennifer did not walk the red carpet or perform at the Grammys but instead; presented the first award of the evening, Best Pop Vocal Album. She looked stunning in a navy gown and announced Harry Styles’ Harry’s House as the winner of the category.
Recently, Ben has been allowing Jennifer to shine at events while remaining in the background. He didn’t join her on the red carpet at the Shotgun Wedding premiere; instead opting to sneak in through a back door of the theater. This is in contrast to the Marry Me premiere, where the couple sweetly posed together, looking so in love.
Ben and Jennifer got engaged in April 2022 and married in July of the same year; 19 years after their original plan to marry. They later had a formal wedding for family and friends near Savannah, Georgia, in August 2022. Despite Ben’s apathetic appearance at the Grammys; it’s clear that he is happy to support Jennifer in any way he can.
