Are Lee Jung-jae, Wi Ha-joon Part Of Squid Game Season 2?

Fans all across the world are pleased since the creators of ‘Squid Game’ have hinted at not only a Season 2 but even a Season 3. The Netflix original Korean drama was one of the most popular shows on the streaming service.

The show and its ensemble, which included Korean movie star Lee Jungjae and top model HoYeon Jung, achieved new heights of international recognition in the second half of 2021 when it was broadcast around the world and trended on social media for months. It surpassed 2020’s ‘Bridgerton’ as the most-watched Netflix show.

‘Squid Game’ was seen by 142 million people. The K-drama is also gaining international acclaim, having been nominated for a Primetime Emmy and winning a Golden Globe and People’s Choice Award. The Netflix series is also up for Critics’ Choice and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Oh Yeong-su, who played Player 1 aka Oh Il-nam in the film, became the first Korean actor to win a Golden Globe. Meanwhile, HoYeon Jung, who played Kang Sae-byeok in Player 67, has signed with Creative Artists Agency, which also represents Harry Styles, Beyonce, and Zendaya.

The success of ‘Squid Game,’ which was watched in over 94 countries, has led to the announcement of a second season. Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, revealed on January 21 that the international sensation had been renewed for a second season and that production had begun. When asked about Netflix’s fourth-quarter income in 2021, Sarandos reportedly stated, “Of course, there will be [a season 2]. The ‘Squid Game’ universe has just begun.”

Fans also worried if cast members from season one, such as Lee Jung-jae, will return. While several fan favourites such as Sae-byeok, Ji-yeong, Ali, and Oh Il-nam were unable to return for season 2 due to their storylines ending in the first season, fans were curious about Jung-character jae’s Gi-hun aka Player 456’s open ending. They also want to see Hwang Jun-ho, who was mysteriously killed off in Season 1, played by Wi Ha-joon. While no spoilers for Season 2 have been released, director Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed Lee Jung-return jae’s as Gi-hun.
