The DC Extended Universe has one of the good films, Aquaman released in 2018. Starring Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry or better known as Aquaman and Amber Heard as Mera. Now it’s awaited sequel coming out in 2022, produced by DC Comics and distributed by Warner bros. The sequel is officially titled as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
The story of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be in continuation of Aquaman. Aquaman is the leader of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. The character first appeared in the 2016 film, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Later in Justice League in 2017. Following this, Aquaman got his first own film, on December 21, 2018. It was a massive success and grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
The idea of Aquaman’s sequel came while shooting the first movie was filming. The Hollywood actor Jason Momoa clearly showed his interest to play underwater again, though, Warner bros. kicked off the plan of the sequel. However, after a year, James Wan signed as the director again. So, this highly anticipated movie got its director and actors back on board to shoot Aquaman 2. The director calls the sequel more mature than the first part.
The filming of the sequel of Aquaman, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom began last year in June. The shooting took place in London and wrapped in December 2021. Jason also dropped an Instagram post when filming began and ended. Warner Bros. gave Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom a December 16, 2022 release date.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be released in theatres on March 17, 2023. The new sequel explores the story of Aquaman who partners with an unlikely alliance in an effort to save Atlantis and the world.
So as well know that Jason Momoa will be back as Aquaman and Amber Heard as Mera, love interest of him. There were many rumours about Amber Heard’s casting in the film. Due to her domestic abuse allegations against Hollywood actor and her ex-husband Johnny Depp. Interestingly, a petition was even launched to remove Amber from Aquaman 2, it crossed 1 million signatures.
Recently, on July 28, Jason Momoa confirmed that Ben Affleck will reunite with him as Batman. Jason wrote to his Instagram account, “REUNITED Bruce and Arthur. Love you and miss u Ben WB studio tours just explored the backlog alright busted in set all great things coming AQUAMAN 2 all my aloha j”.
This news is a surprise for fans as they thought Ben Affleck will no longer play their favorite Batman. Ben is also set to reprise his role in the upcoming sequel of “The Flash”.
The film will also feature Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius, Aquaman’s half-brother, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Mera’s father, and Yahya Abdul Mateen as David Kane. Also, it is still not confirmed whether Nicole Kidman is returning as Atlanna, Aquaman’s mother. Some of the new characters include: Vincent Regan as Atman, Jani Zhao as Stingray, and Pilou Asbaek is also cast in an undisclosed role.
