Anurag Basu reveals he was one of the firsts to know about Rishi Kapoor’s cancer diagnosis
Actor Ranbir Kapoor had confided in Anurag Basu about his father Rishi Kapoor‘s cancer diagnosis!
It was on April 30th this year when the veteran Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor had passed away. It had come as a huge shock to the entire film fraternity. The actor was diagnosed with cancer some two years back. In fact, he had moved to the US for a few months for his treatment.
Now the director Anurag Basu has revealed that he was one of the firsts to know about Rishi ji’s ailment. He had collaborated with Ranbir Kapoor for the film Jagga Jasoos. The actor had confided in him about his father’s cancer diagnosis.
Anurag himself is a cancer survivor. He had battled promyelocytic leukemia and had recovered in the year 2004.
Recently in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Basu said, “I was among the first few to know. We discussed what line of treatment he should take. I shared the number of my doctor with him and they spoke to him and told me what they had decided.”
He had met Chintu ji on Ranbir’s birthday last year. All of them had dinner together where they talked about the treatment. “Neetuji spoke about the treatment, Chintuji, like always, was in his element, trying to dig into cake. Since he was not allowed to have sweets, Neetuji tried to keep him away and this led to a fight between them. It was very cute,” he added.
Rishi Kapoor had breathed his last in Sir HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai. Owing to the lockdown in the country, not many people could attend his funeral. The entire film industry had paid their last tribute to the actor through social media.
