Anne Hathaway Reveals She Was Ninth Choice For Devil Wears Prada

Anne Hathaway opened up about her fight to land her part in the 2006 comedy-drama, The Devil Wears Prada. She appeared on Friday’s RuPaul’s Drag Race and revealed that she was ninth in line for the role of Andy Sachs opposite Meryl Streep.

One of the contestants, Rose asked the actress if there were many roles she had to fight tooth and nail for. She jokingly responded asking how much time Rose has. The actress shared as she said she will give out some tea. “I will give you some tea: I was the ninth choice for Devil Wears Prada,” she revealed. “But I got it! Hang in there, never give up.”

Anne revealed Rachel McAdams was the first choice for the role because of her success in The Notebook and Mean Girls. However, she frequently turned it down. Rachel had reported back in 2007 that she is not going to make movies just for the sake of it.

She shared, “I have to be passionate about it. And at the same time, I can get very distracted when I’m working, and I like to get back to my life a lot.” Other actresses who auditioned for the part included Juliette Lewis and Clarie Danes.

Anne had opened up about hard she had to work to get the role. She revealed back in 2016 that she had to be patient as she wasn’t the first choice. The actress shared that she traced the words “hire me” in the sand of a zen garden plant of an executive after their meeting was over to catch their attention.

Anne & Jared To Star In Apple’s WeWork Project

The actress then recalled the moment when she found out that she had got the part. She shared that she was putting on a shirt and she had some friends over. The Devil Wears Prada actor said, “I had some buddies over. I remember running out in my living room, half-dressed, screaming — I got The Devil Wears Prada! I got The Devil Wears Prada!”

Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto have been roped in to star in Apple’s scripted WeWork project. The project has been ordered to become a series at the streaming service.

The series will be called WeCrashed which will be based on the Wondery podcast of the same name. It has been described as following the greed-filled rise and the fall of WeWork which is one of the most valuable startups. The narcissists whose chaotic love made this all possible.

Anne and Jared have both won Oscars for their commendable performances. The actress won the award for being the best-supporting actress in her 2012 film, Les Miserables. Meanwhile, Jared won the award for being the best supporting actor for his 2013 drama, Dallas Buyers Club.

The actors will also serve as executive producers on WeCrashed in addition to acting in the movies. Anne had recently appeared in Locked Down which was by Doug Liman.

She also appeared in the HBO Max remake of The Witches; her notable performance includes her movies, Devil Wears Prada, Rachel Getting Married, Interstellar. The series, WeCrashed will mark as her first regular television role after starring in the Fox sitcom, Get Real.

The series will be co-written and executive produced by Lee Eisenberg and Drew Crivello. They will also act as co-showrunners as Lee has previously co-created the hit Apple series, Little America. He was also the showrunner in the series and that year it was revealed that the writer has signed an overall deal with the streaming service.

Meanwhile, WeCrashed will be directed by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra in addition to executive producing. The team of executive producers also include Charlie Gogolak and Natalie Sandy along with Emma Ludbrook via her and Jared’s Paradox production.
