Anna Kendrick Remembers Filming ‘Twilight’

Anna opens up about what it was like to film the Twilight franchise.

The actress, 34, revisits her film career for Vanity Fair on Friday while promoting her new HBO Max series Love Life. She said all she remembered from filming Twilight was “being so cold and miserable” while shooting in Portland, Oregon.

Playing “Jessica”, “Bella Swan’s” frenemy in the film, Kendrick reveals that she was completely soaked for most shots.

‘I want to murder everyone’

“I just remember my converse being completely soaked through. And feeling like you know this is a really good group of people. I’m sure that we would be friends at a different time, but I want to murder everyone,” Kendrick, who played Bella Swan’s frenemy, Jessica, said, laughing.

She added, “Although it was also kind of bonding. There was like something about it like you go through some trauma event like you imagine people who survive like a hostage situation, and you’re kind of bonded for life.”

In the third film, Kendrick recalls the graduation speech her character did. She mentions how often she gets praised for that moment, however she brushes it off as Kristen Stewart’s good acting.

“I swear to God the thing that is happening is that you’re looking at Kristen Stewart’s reaction to that speech and that’s what is moving you,” she said.

The Pitch Perfect star noted that she and her costars “all got to know each other a little bit better”. Especially while shooting sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

Kendrick later jokes about her final appearance in the film series in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. “It was just a wedding scene, where again I’m like, ‘These people are so weird,’ and you’re in half-frozen mud, in what was the final scene of filming for everybody,” she reveals. “I get to come in and work for a week or two, and everyone else has been giving their blood, sweat and tears to the project for months. I show up at the end and I’m like, ‘Guys, we did it. It’s over.’”

The Love Life actress appeared as Jessica Stanley in 2008’s Twilight; 2009’s New Moon; 2010’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and 2011’s Breaking Dawn – Part 1. The series concluded with 2012’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.

A lighthearted dig

The Twilight movies — based on the novels by Stephenie Meyer — starred Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan), Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen), Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black), Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen), Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen), Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale), Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale), Peter Facinelli (Carlisle Cullen), Billy Burke (Charlie Swan) and Elizabeth Reaser (Esme Cullen).

Kendrick, for her part, previously made light of her part in the franchise. “Holy s—t,” she tweeted in November 2018. “I just remembered I was in Twilight.”

Anna Kendrick shed some light later on as to why she called working on the Twilight saga “miserable”. She says that it was just a lighthearted dig at their filming conditions.

“Oh. I thought we stopped doing this ‘actress makes a dumb joke about the cold weather but we turn it into clickbait anyway’ s–t in like 2014,” the actress, tweeted on June 10. “U okay hun?”

Kendrick rose to prominence for her supporting role as Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga.

She went on to star in comedy-drama Up in the Air. Which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

She achieved further recognition for her starring role as Beca Mitchell in the Pitch Perfect film series.

Her next project is the HBO Max romcom,  Love Life, for which she additionally served as an executive producer.
