Michelle Yeoh Joins the Cast of The Witcher Prequel Series
Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of The Witcher: Blood Origin on Netflix, which is a short live-action prequel series to the Henry Cavill-led TV version. The series will take place 1200 years before the main series and will focus on the development of the first prototype Witcher as well as the events leading up to the “conjunction of the spheres,” when the realms of monsters, men, and elves united to form one.
Declan de Barra, who created episode 4 of The Witcher Season 1, will serve as executive producer and showrunner, with Lauren Schmidt Hissrich of mothership serving as executive producer and novelist Andrzej Sapkowski serving as creative consultant.
Laurence O’Fuarain, who will play Fjall, a warrior seeking forgiveness after losing a loved one in battle, joins Yeoh in the cast. Blood Origin was originally supposed to star Jodie Turner-Smith as warrior-turned-musician Éile, but the Without Remorse actress was forced to leave because to a schedule problem and the turn off’s being delayed. Despite this temporary sticking point, the project is still moving along well.
Netflix Announcement
Yeoh has been cast as Scan, the last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves, according to Netflix. Scan is burdened by past trauma, as are many characters in both series, and starts on a quest for personal redemption as well as redemption for her people.
The Witcher franchise fans have a lot to look forward to in the near future, especially with this week’s virtual WitcherCon event. The fantasy universe is just getting bigger, with new information on The Witcher season 2 as well as the gaming side of things. Production on The Witcher: Blood Origin should begin soon now that Yeoh has joined the project.
