Chris Hemsworth to undergo ‘insane physical preparation’ for Hulk Hogan Biopic
Chris Hemsworth revealed he will undergo his biggest physical transformation ever to transform into Hulk Hogan. Earlier this year it was announced that Chris will be playing the iconic pro wrestler in a Netflix biopic. The movie is said to document the popular wrestler’s rise to fame in the 1980’s. Todd Philips will be directing the much awaited biopic. The popular american filmmaker is known for directing Joker and the Hangover series.
“I will have to put on more size than ever”
In a new interview with Total Film, the Australian actor opened up about the preparation he’s doing for the role. He admits it will require him to pack on even more muscle than he did to portray Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
‘This movie is going to be a really fun project. As you can imagine, the preparation for the role will be insanely physical. I will have to put on more size than I ever have before, even more than I put on for Thor,’ Chris said. In addition, he’s also going to have to master the Hulkster’s distinctive voice and speaking style. Chris continued: ‘There is the accent, as well as the physicality and the attitude.’ Hemsworth revealed that he is very excited about ‘deep diving into the rabbit hole’ of the wrestling world. The Extraction actor added that it was “going to be fun to see” himself sporting Hogan’s iconic mustache. “I’m going to be blonde, probably balding and with a ‘tache,” he said.
“I haven’t even seen a script yet”
While Chris is looking forward to transforming into Hulk, he said the film has ‘quite a way’ to go before production begins.
“I haven’t even seen a script yet. The project is deep in development. Todd Phillips and I met to chat about it maybe a year or two ago. We talked about the idea for the film, which I think was going to be a TV series at one point. There were a few different ideas about what portion of his life it was going to be set in. So we spit balled about what it could be and what I thought it might be. Thankfully, they ran with a few of those ideas and the script is in the process of being written. However, Hulk Hogan is still quite a way away.”
It was previously reported that rather than encompassing his entire life, the biopic will focus on Hogan’s ascent to international fame and becoming a cultural icon in the 80’s. It will be the origin story of the “Hulkster“, who was born as Terry Gene Bollea. Bollea, who is a 12 time world wrestling champion, has also starred in popular films. Namely, Rocky III, No Holds Barred, Suburban Commando and Mr. Nanny. The term “Hulkmania” was coined to denote his mainstream popularity throughout this period.
The biopic will be produced by Michael Sugar through his Sugar23’s first-look Netflix deal along with Joint Efforts’ Phillips and Bradley Cooper, Eric Bischoff, and Hemsworth. Hulk Hogan himself will serve as executive producer along with Sugar23’s Ashley Zalta. Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman will serve as co-producers.
