BLACKPINK finally made their much-awaited comeback to music in August of 2022, after almost a 2-year-long wait. Even though the group’s longest hiatus yet was hard on the fans, their comeback once again proved that they are more than worth the wait. BLACKPINK kick-started the new era with a PUBG Collab which included the release of their first track from their second studio album – Ready For Love – which was accompanied by an animated music video that has amassed more than 100 million views on YouTube.
BLACKPINK then finally made their comeback with the pre-release single titled “Pink Venom”, which was then followed by their title track “Shut Down” and the album “Born Pink”. The music video for Pink Venom received over 90 million views in its first 24 hours, recording the biggest-ever YouTube debut for a Korean music video. The music video was also followed by a “Pink Venom” Dance Challenge, which quickly went viral.
BLACKPINK uploaded a total of six YouTube Shorts related to the Pink Venom challenge. The short videos have accumulated a total of 628 million views. Therefore, it’s not hard to see why 9GAG named the challenge as the THIRD (out of 10) most viral moment of 2022.
BLACKPINK’s Born Pink had two singles, both of which reached number one on the Billboard Global 200. Both singles also made history by becoming the only K-Pop/Korean songs to debut at #1 on Global Spotify (Daily) Chart. Shut Down became the first K-Pop song to reach #1 on Global Spotify Weekly Chart.
To promote the album, Blackpink embarked on the Born Pink World Tour beginning in October. Born Pink recorded 2.2 Million sales, becoming the best-selling album by a girl group in South Korea and the first to surpass two million sales.
